Do yourself a favour and head on over to the capital city of South Australia. What was once a sleepy little town has since evolved over the years to become a bustling hub of world-class festivals, culture, fine dining and more.
Better yet, Adelaide is a gateway to the ever-popular Adelaide Hills, with its rich bounty of vineyards and wineries. If you’d prefer to keep things central, however, you can stroll around the belt of parkland that encircles the CBD on four sides. This city-locked slice of nature offers plenty of pleasant strolling options, and hugs the River Torrens along the northern boundary.

There’s something magical about the rolling hills that surround Adelaide's city centre.
South Australia is a world-renowned wine destination, with some grapes that will rival that of New Zealand’s best produce. You can head to either the Adelaide Hills or Barossa Valley, with both regions offering plenty of artisanal goods, fresh produce, and delicious wines. Drive through the area and stop at a spot that takes your fancy - there will be plenty that do! Some notable highlights include Chateau Tanunda, Rockford Wines, and Bethany Wines, though anywhere you stop will be world-class.
The Fleurieu Peninsula is simply out of this world. Just an hour outside of the central CBD of Adelaide, this pocket of the world is incredible, with world-renowned beaches, rolling hills, and some fantastic wine here to boot. The beaches are arguably one of the main reasons people drive here, with highlights including Goolwa, Aldinga Beach, and Port Elliot. We recommend spending a few days in this charming area to truly see what a natural wonderland it is.
The Flinders Ranges are another epic destination, however a visit does require some long-distance driving. The ranges are just under five hours from Adelaide, but this incredible place more than deserves a visit. With ancient rock formations, mountain ranges, and impressive gorges, you could easily spend a few days here getting lost in this beautiful pocket of the world. If you have the time, we thoroughly recommend making the trip.
Of course, once you’ve finished exploring the incredible landscapes around Adelaide, it’s time to spend a few days in the city itself.
Adelaide is pretty magical any time of the year. With the city being known as the ‘City of Festivals’, the ‘City of Churches’, and the ‘City of Parks’, you know there will be plenty on offer to do, see, and discover while you visit. Thousands of people flock here each year, and it’s easy to see why - with so much on every single day, there’s never a wrong time to book your flight and head to South Australia.
Adelaide is renowned for its festivals. It’s home to the second-largest fringe festival in the world, the Adelaide Fringe Festival. Over 600,000 people attend the festival each year, with local and international artists performing to massive crowds for a month over the summer. If you want to skip the heat, come to Adelaide during the autumn months for the WOMADelaide festival. It’s a four-day-long celebration of dance, arts, and music. In spring, there’s the film extravaganza of the Adelaide Film Festival - so there’s truly something for everyone.
Adelaide is a fantastic city, and the surrounding landscape is some of Australia's best.
