Lovers of aviation and military history will enjoy walking amongst the historic fleet of planes on display at the Air Force Museum of New Zealand – better yet, it’s completely free.

3. Sumner beach

Immerse yourself in New Zealand’s history and art while learning about its natural landscape at the Canterbury Museum. Learning’s always better when it’s free.

If you’re after more of a modern, urban art gallery, then head to Brockworth Street to discover an impressive art gallery where the canvas is brick and cement.
